AVOYELLES PARISH, La. (KALB) — The Avoyelles Animal Welfare Society, based in Cottonport since 2012, is urgently seeking donations to stay afloat.
Phyllis Lemoine, the society’s treasurer, warned that without immediate financial support or volunteers, the shelter could be forced to close its doors.
“We desperately need money,” Lemoine said. “Our main priority is securing funds to keep the shelter open. We also need food for the animals, help with veterinary bills, and maintenance for the building and yard. Everyday items like laundry detergent, floor cleaners, and dishwashing liquid are essential. If you use it at home, we need it here.”
The shelter relies entirely on public donations and, due to a shortage of staff, is currently unable to host fundraising events.
