On Tuesday, May 27, the Saint-Martin court held a hearing in a case involving a dog attack. The defendant, identified as DF, and the victim, EB, appeared in court.
The incident took place on January 5. EB was out running with his dog in an unfamiliar area when three aggressive dogs suddenly attacked his well-trained pet. One of the attacking dogs belonged to DF, who did not intervene to stop the fight.
Caught in the middle of the violent attack, EB tried to protect his dog but was injured in the process. Two witnesses saw the scene and helped EB end the conflict.
“Fortunately, these people came to help me. I was in shock. DF didn’t show up,” EB said.
DF admitted to not having installed a proper fence for over ten years. However, he argued that he should not be responsible for the costs of building a new fence or for the victim’s medical expenses.
The court ruled against DF. He was ordered to pay €667 for the dog’s medical care, €1,500 for moral and physical damages, and a suspended fine of €2,000. Additionally, DF was banned from owning a dog for two years.
