A woman required an ambulance after being attacked by a dog at the Auckland Botanic Gardens on Monday morning.
A spokesperson from St John confirmed they were alerted to the incident at approximately 9:30 AM. One ambulance responded to the scene and transported the woman, who was in a minor condition, to Bakerfield Medical Centre.
Rob Irvine, General Manager of Licensing and Compliance at Auckland Council, told RNZ that the garden’s staff rushed to assist the woman after she was bitten by a roaming dog in an on-leash area. “Our staff provided first aid while the ambulance and Animal Management were notified,” Irvine said. “We are currently investigating the incident, including reviewing CCTV footage.”
Irvine emphasized the importance of dog owners ensuring their pets are kept on-leash in designated areas. “This incident serves as a reminder to dog owners to be vigilant about leash regulations,” he stated. “If you encounter a roaming dog or witness a dog attack, report it immediately to our Animal Management Officers, who will respond as soon as possible.”
In a separate post on social media, a woman claimed that her mother was the victim of the attack. She alleged that after the dog bit her mother’s arm without provocation, the owners left her on the ground, bleeding, instead of staying to assist.
