Licensed Pets Only: Walk Your Dog in City Parks, No Strays Allowed

by Doreen Miller

Following previous dog bite incidents in city parks, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to allow only licensed pet dogs inside public parks. The GHMC has urged all pet owners to register their dogs with the municipality.

This directive came during GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan’s visit to KBR Park in Jubilee Hills, where he inspected ongoing development works. The commissioner emphasized the need for responsible pet ownership. He instructed officials to strictly enforce the rule to keep the parks clean and safe for all visitors.

Commissioner Karnan asked all dog owners within GHMC limits to register their pets through the MyGHMC app. This registration process is free and simple. It will help pet owners receive important information and reminders about vaccinations and de-worming. At the same time, it will help GHMC promote responsible pet care.

During his visit, Karnan also checked the progress of walker-friendly infrastructure projects. He encouraged engineers to use innovative and efficient methods to complete the work on time.

The commissioner reviewed the construction of flyovers and underpasses under the H-City project. He questioned whether these projects followed court orders. Engineers assured him that all work complies with court guidelines and takes place within the designated sensitive zone.

Karnan was accompanied by Additional Commissioner Subhadra, DC Sammayya, EE Manya Nayak, SE Sri Lakshmi, Dy EE Harish, Circle EE Vijay Kumar, and other officials.

Earlier, on June 1, Karnan visited Malakpet to evaluate joint operations by GHMC and the Water Board. These efforts aim to ease traffic congestion caused by drainage overflow. He inspected night-time drainage repairs and road development work from Necklace Road Railway Station to Kundan Bagh.

The commissioner instructed engineering teams to speed up the work, increase manpower, and operate around the clock. His goal is to reduce inconvenience to the public. Superintending Engineer Maheshwar Reddy informed Karnan that there is no immediate risk of traffic jams but completing the projects quickly will provide a long-term solution.
