Joybound People & Pets, a prominent nonprofit in the Bay Area focused on pet rescue, adoptions, veterinary care, and strengthening the human-animal bond, announced plans for a new Dog and Cat Boarding and Day Care facility. Scheduled to break ground in April 2026 and open by Fall 2027, this state-of-the-art center aims to address the growing demand for pet care services in the region.
“Joybound is dedicated to supporting pet families,” said Jennifer Hall, Chair of the Board. “With the ongoing shortage of boarding and daycare resources, particularly as more people return to in-person work, we are committed to providing a reliable and affordable solution.”
This initiative is a significant part of Joybound’s long-term strategy to meet the evolving needs of the community. The facility will be located on a 1.7-acre undeveloped campus and will offer essential services such as dog and cat boarding, day care, behavior consultation, and training.
The project has been in development for nearly two years, with input from a multidisciplinary team of board members, staff, and advisors. Joybound’s senior staff bring extensive expertise in animal care and behavior consultation, ensuring the new facility will continue the organization’s tradition of excellence.
The facility will also enhance Joybound’s ability to offer critical services such as crisis boarding for families facing urgent challenges, including domestic violence, housing insecurity, or medical emergencies. Additionally, it will provide disaster relief boarding for pets displaced by natural disasters like wildfires or earthquakes.
“This isn’t just about building a new structure,” said Susan Lee Vick, President and CEO. “It’s an investment in our mission to provide affordable, high-quality pet care, which is vital to our community.”
The $11.8 million project will be self-financed by Joybound, ensuring long-term financial sustainability. The organization aims to generate a stable return through this initiative while furthering its mission.
“We are investing resources entrusted to us by our community to create a lasting impact,” said Kevin Fick, Board Treasurer. “This project reflects our commitment to honoring that trust while building a stronger future.”
Once operational, the facility is expected to provide over 70,000 essential services annually, including day care and crisis support. Joybound is committed to keeping its services affordable for all.
Joybound People & Pets, founded in 1991, has facilitated over 52,000 pet adoptions and offers a range of services including veterinary care, animal training, and human education, significantly increasing its community impact since 2023.
