PARIS, Tenn. — Authorities in Benton County are investigating a disturbing case of animal abuse reported Sunday in Big Sandy.
Officials responded after a call reported a German Shepherd being chained to the back of a truck and dragged along State Route 69 Alternate.
Benton County Volunteer Animal Control Officer Ronny Christian described the dog’s condition as critical, with severe abrasions and road rash extending down to the bone.
The injured dog was taken to Mineral Wells Animal Clinic in Paris for emergency treatment. Due to legal constraints, the clinic has not released updates on the dog’s current status.
The clinic is accepting donations to help cover the dog’s medical expenses.
Authorities continue to investigate and will share updates as new information becomes available.
