Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council in Warwickshire has launched a campaign aimed at tackling the growing issue of dog fouling in public spaces. The initiative involves spray painting dog mess in local parks to raise awareness among dog owners about the importance of responsible waste disposal.
The council’s message to pet owners is clear: any bin will do for disposing of dog waste, rather than requiring specific dog waste bins.
Cllr Tony Venson emphasized that the majority of dog owners are responsible, but it is a small group of individuals who fail to clean up after their pets. “We want to make these irresponsible owners aware of the mess they are leaving behind in their community by highlighting it visually,” he said.
Recently, the council conducted spot checks across several public areas in Nuneaton. Animal Welfare Officer Louisa Cullen reported that in just three sites, 190 instances of uncollected dog mess were found. “The scale of the problem is likely bigger than people realize, but it wasn’t surprising,” she stated.
