Family Escapes House Fire, but One Dog Dies in the Blaze

by Doreen Miller

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A family narrowly escaped a house fire in Castalia on Monday, but sadly lost one of their pets in the blaze.

Michelle Evans, the homeowner, shared that she had lived in the house for 55 years, and had been residing there with her daughter and grandson for some time.

Evans’ daughter was not at home during the fire. However, her grandson, who had the day off, was there when he smelled smoke. He told FOX13 that the smoke alarms did not go off immediately. It was only after detecting the smoke that he rushed to help his grandmother and their two dogs escape the house.

The family believes the fire started in the garage.

The grandson managed to get his grandmother and one of the dogs out safely, but tragically, their other dog did not survive.

Evans expressed her relief, saying she was just thankful that they all made it out of the house.
