County Animal Shelters Extend Hours During Dog Days of Summer

by Doreen Miller

Santa Barbara County Animal Services (SBCAS) is extending shelter hours to better serve the community this summer. Starting now, all three SBCAS shelters in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Lompoc will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The shelters will remain closed on Mondays and county-observed holidays.

The extended hours are aimed at providing more opportunities for the public to take advantage of the services offered, including:

Adoptions: Find a loving companion among the animals in need of forever homes.

Foster Matchmaking: Become a foster parent and help an animal in need or find a temporary home for your own pet.

Pet Licensing and Registration: Ensure pets are properly registered and compliant with local regulations.

Free Microchipping: Protect your pets with secure, traceable identification.

Pet Pantry Access: Utilize donated resources to help care for your pets.

“We are excited to offer extended hours this summer to better serve our community and the animals in our care,” said Sarah Aguilar, director of Santa Barbara County Animal Services. “These additional hours provide more opportunities for adoptions, fostering, and reuniting lost pets with their caretakers.”

This initiative ensures more access to essential services during the peak summer season, helping both pets and their owners.
