Fendi, a Boston Terrier, was reported missing on April 17 near Cassells and Main Street West in North Bay. The search for the dog became urgent after he was heard whimpering from underneath the government dock known as “King’s Landing” on Lake Nipissing’s waterfront. An individual walking by the dock heard the distressed sounds and contacted authorities, triggering a rescue operation.
The North Bay Fire Department responded promptly, using a dinghy to reach the east side of the dock. Firefighters employed a dog catcher pole to carefully extract the frightened dog from his predicament. Although Fendi initially resisted, once he was safely brought to the dock, he seemed to realize he had been saved. He eagerly ate a granola bar offered by a police officer.
According to Greg Saunders, North Bay’s deputy fire chief, firefighters used ice-water rescue equipment to ensure the dog was safely brought ashore. The team had to act swiftly, as Fendi had been trapped under the dock for a significant amount of time.
Fendi’s owner, Ivana Solsona, shared her gratitude after being contacted by BayToday. She was able to pick up her beloved dog from the Humane Society and expressed how thankful she was for the efforts made in rescuing him. “It’s been a long week without him,” she said, adding that Fendi had slipped out of the house through a patio door, prompting his unexpected escape.
This rescue not only brought a heartwarming reunion but also highlighted the community’s dedication to helping in times of need.
