Amarillo SPCA’s Muttfest Celebrates Dogs with Fiesta Fun

by Doreen Miller

Amarillo’s Starlight Ranch Event Center hosted a tail-wagging celebration on Sunday, May 4, as the Amarillo SPCA’s annual Muttfest returned with its “Day of the Dog Fiesta” theme. The family-friendly event, held from noon to 5 p.m., was free to attend, though donations were encouraged to support the SPCA’s ongoing efforts in rescuing and caring for local animals.

Bobby Lee, co-owner of Starlight Ranch, once again welcomed attendees to the event, driven by his own love for dogs. Guests brought their leashed dogs to enjoy an afternoon of fun, featuring live music, food trucks, beverages, and a variety of vendor booths.

Key highlights of Muttfest included a silent auction, as well as low-cost dog vaccinations provided by Lone Star Veterinary Services. Attendees were also able to take advantage of free microchipping services offered by Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare.

The event’s festive spirit was further elevated by a series of entertaining contests, including owner-pet lookalike, best talent, best costume, and the crowning of fiesta king and queen. The crowd was treated to plenty of laughter and applause as participants showed off their furry companions in a variety of playful categories.
