A courageous rescue operation unfolded in the Peak District over the weekend when a dog sustained a serious injury while on a walk with its owners. The black Saluki-Collie mix, named Nova, was found struggling after injuring her right rear leg on a tree stump at Hope Cross, Derbyshire.
At approximately 1:45 PM BST on Saturday, police responded to a distress call from Nova’s owners. They quickly contacted the Edale Mountain Rescue Team, which arrived to assist with the injured dog. Upon examination, the team discovered that Nova had torn her rear thigh, exposing a large wound. Despite the pain, the dog remained calm and cooperative throughout the procedure.
The team carefully cleaned and bandaged Nova’s injury before beginning the difficult task of transporting her down the steep 1,000-foot hill back to the campsite. Despite the challenging terrain, Nova’s calm demeanor helped facilitate the rescue.
Once at the campsite, Nova was taken to a local veterinary clinic for further treatment. There, the wound was stitched up, and she is now recovering at home. The mountain rescue team took to social media to praise Nova’s bravery, calling her a “model patient” and wishing her a speedy recovery.
“We hope she will soon be back to roaming the hills she loves,” the team added.
