Orlando Bloom’s interview on the Today show took an unexpected turn when his teacup poodle, Biggie Smalls, stole the spotlight.
The 48-year-old actor appeared on the program on June 9 to discuss his career and upcoming films, including the Prime Video comedy Deep Cover and the drama The Cut. Midway through the conversation with host Savannah Guthrie, barking off-camera interrupted the interview.
Bloom quickly shifted his attention to the noise, introducing Biggie, who was resting in actress Dakota Johnson’s arms on a nearby couch. “He’s looking for attention,” Bloom joked. He added that Biggie wouldn’t normally bark but seemed curious about his presence. Bloom also teased that Johnson was “stealing” his dog, to which she replied she was “just the babysitter” and “just the nanny.”
Guthrie called Biggie “so cute” and asked if he accompanied Bloom everywhere. The actor confirmed that the dog usually “keeps quiet as a mouse” but might have been experiencing separation anxiety. Johnson brought Biggie over to Bloom’s lap so the interview could continue smoothly.
Bloom described Biggie as his “emotional support animal,” noting the pup appeared to enjoy his moment of fame. Guthrie called Biggie a “diva,” a description Bloom agreed with, predicting the dog “is going to steal the show.”
Bloom and his longtime partner, Katy Perry, have had several dogs over the years, with Biggie being the latest addition. In 2020, Bloom shared the heartbreaking loss of their dog Mighty, who went missing and later died despite an extensive search. Bloom paid tribute to Mighty, calling their bond a “soul connection” and even got a tattoo of the dog’s name on his chest.
Later that year, Bloom fostered another dog named Buddy, who he said “really filled my heart.”
