Jacob Bagnall, a 15-year-old from Woodford Green, experienced a heartwarming moment thanks to Make-A-Wish UK. Diagnosed with ataxia telangiectasia, a rare degenerative neurological condition, Jacob’s mobility has been severely affected, leaving him unable to walk and reliant on a wheelchair. His family, especially his father Mark, shared how much Jacob’s dog, Izzy, has helped him navigate this challenging journey, offering emotional support even without formal training.
Jacob’s wish was to visit a guide dog training centre, and Make-A-Wish UK made this dream come true. At the Guide Dogs South East Regional Centre, Jacob and his family spent the day interacting with puppies, attending training sessions, and exploring the kennels. It was a special day that provided Jacob with a rare opportunity to connect with the dogs and see them in action.
Mark Bagnall reflected on the importance of the experience, saying, “A wish is one of those moments that make them feel special, something done for them individually and that’s precious.” One particularly touching moment was when Jacob was lifted out of his wheelchair, and the guide dogs came over to cuddle with him, filling the day with warmth and joy.
This visit not only brightened Jacob’s day but also served as a reminder of the profound bond that humans and dogs can share.
